The Web Site of John Ryan / jryanworks.com

John RyanEver since high school in the early 70's, photography has been a passion of mine. The works of Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Koudelka, Emmit Gowan, and many more, both influenced and inspired me. Luckily, I had the good fortune to attend (and later teach) at the The Banff School of Fine Artsin Alberta, Canada – which solidified my interest in the artform.

However, I never really wanted to become a 'professional' photographer – whatever that meant. So I pursued a career in graphic design and never looked back. But photography was always present in my life – either through design work or while away on some junket – always searching out waves around the globe as a surfer and photographer.

The photos on this site reflect my interests in travel, surfing, and the 'decisive' moment. I hope you enjoy them.
